Abstract AN ELECTROCHEMICAL CELL, COMPRISING AN ANODE, A GAS DIFFUSION CATHODE CONTAINING SILVER CATALYST, AND AN AQUEOUS ELECTROYTE BETWEEN THE ANODE AND CATHODE TO WHICH IS ADDED AT LEAST 0.01 MOLE OF EITHER CARBONATE, PHOSPHATE OR CHLORIDE IONS PER LITER OF ELECTROLYTE, IS USED TO CAUSE CURRENT TO FLOW EXTERNALLY THROUGH A LOAD CIRCUIT CONNECTING THE ANODE AND CATHODE.
