Abstract REDUCING THE OXIDES OF NITROGEN FORMED DURING THE OXIDATION OF A SOURCE OF SULFUR WHICH CONTAINS NITROGEN COMPOUNDS TO INERT NITROGEN ALLOWS CONTAMINANT-FREE RECOVERY OF SULFUR DIOXIDE FROM THE PROCESS GAS STREAM OR ALLOWS THE PROCESS GAS STREAM TO BE DIRECTLY UTILIZED FOR THE PRODUCTION OF CONTAMINANT-FREE DERIVATIVES OF SULFUR DIOXIDE, SUCH AS SULFUR TRIOXIDE, SULFURIC ACID, AND THE SULFATES.
