Abstract
Abstract GLASS IS STRENGTHENED BY THE IONIC INTERCHANGE OF A SMALLER FOR A LARGER ION AT A TEMPERATURE ABOVE THE STRAIN POINT AND BY HOT CONTACT. THE SMALLER ION IS THEN DISPLACED BY A LARGER ION, AT A TEMPERATURE BELOW THE STRAIN POINT, BY ELECTROMIGRATION. NEW PRODUCTS HAVING HIGHLY DISTINCTIVE INTERNAL STRESS PATTERNS ARE PRODUCED.
