Abstract
Abstract The conversion of Alpha and Beta -ionone, and mixtures thereof, to various alkyl-substituted delta -ionone derivatives is accomplished in high yield by the use of a base-catalyzed alkylation reaction step. The resulting isoalkyl- delta -ionones are useful as perfume and flavor odorants, with isoethyl- delta ionone resembling Alpha -irone.
