Abstract
Abstract Apparatus for optically testing the genuineness of bank notes and the like by successively illuminating a selected portion of a note with light beams having different spectral distributions and then detecting the light transmitted through or reflected by the illuminated portion with a light sensitive device such as a photo cell. The output of the photocell is separated into two signals corresponding to the different spectral distributions and the ratio of the two signals is formed. An evaluating circuit is used to decide whether the ratio falls within predetermined limits and, if so, the note is treated as genuine.
