Abstract An alphanumeric recording system wherein a character disc having transparent character images thereon is rotated through an exposure zone so that selected characters may be projected by the energization of a flash lamp. The projected image is collimated and directed to a recording zone through which move lens-mirror units at a constant speed to intercept the projected image and focus it onto a photoreceptive recording medium. The character disc rotates at a rate such that with the slits therein associated with respective characters inter-character spacing is assured. Dead time in the recording process is eliminated by the use of the collimated projected character image and plural interception of that image.
An optical system for a recording apparatus employing a light responsive recording medium in a recording zone wherein a light modulating area in An opaque member intercepts light from a projection flash lamp at an exposure zone comprising: a. optical means for collimating light passing through said area; b. a drive member; c. means for driving said drive member at a constant speed through said recording zone and substantially parallel to said recording medium; d. two lenses each attached to said drive member and positioned at some time during the movement of said drive member relative to said collimated light to intercept simultaneously different portions thereof, said lenses being spaced apart on said drive member by a distance equal to the dimension of said recording zone in the direction of movement of said lenses therethrough; e. two optical means, each associated respectively with one of said lenses, for directing the light passing through said lenses onto said recording medium, the length of the path travelled by the light passing through any one of said lenses to said recording surface via a respective one of said two optical means substantially equalling the focal length of said lenses.
