Abstract
Abstract Alpha - AND Beta -CHAMIGRENES TREATED WITH SUBSTANTIALLY ANHYDROUS STRONG ACIDS, SUITABLY IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ALKANOIC ACID ARE ISOMERIZED TO GIVE A MIXTURE OF NOVEL TRICYCLIC C15 H24 olefinic hydrocarbons rich in 6,8a-ethano-1,1,6-trimethyl1,2,3,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydronaphthalene. The aforementioned compound is useful as an intermediate in the preparation of compounds in perfume compounding.
