Abstract

Abstract There is disclosed a process for the polymerization of conjugated diolefins and mixtures thereof which comprises contacting at least one conjugated diolefin with a catalyst system comprising (A) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of metal salts of carboxylic acids, metal salts of inorganic acids and organic complex compounds of metals wherein the metal is selected from a group consisting of uranium and thorium, (B) at least one trialkylaluminum or dialkylaluminum hydride, and (C) at least one halide ion containing compound selected from a group consisting of hydrogen halides, organometallic halides wherein the metal is selected from Groups II, III-A and IV-A of the Periodic Table and halides of metals of Groups III, IV, V, VI-B and VIII of the Periodic Table.
