Abstract
Abstract A catalyst comprising a base-exchanged, calcined manganese silicate-containing mineral in the form of a manganese nodule, said mineral having hydrogen ions bonded thereto in an amount of at least 0.01 gram per 100 grams of said mineral; a method of preparing the same from naturally occurring manganese nodules and organic compound conversion with catalytically-active forms of said nodules.

Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim
33 words
A catalyst comprising a base-exchanged manganese silicate-containing mineral in the form of manganese nodules having hydrogen ions bonded thereto in an amount of at least 0.01 gram per 100 gram of said mineral.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
62 words
A method for making a catalyst useful in hydrocarbon conversions which comprises base-exchanging a manganese silicate-containing natural manganese nodule by treating the same with a fluid medium containing exchangeable hydrogen ion precursors, calcining it, and thereby producing a base-exchanged calcined manganese silicate-containing product having hydrogen ions bonded thereto in an amount of 0.01 to 0.5 gram per 100 gram of said product.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
33 words
The method of claim 3 wherein said base exchange comprises treating the manganese nodule with a solution of a salt capable of supplying hydrogen ion precursors selected from ammonium, alkylammonium, and arylammonium ions.
