Abstract PRIOR TO ELECTROLESSLY DEPOSITING A METAL ON A SUBSTRATE, THE SUBSTRATE IS TREATED WITH AN AQUIOUS SOLUTION OF A COMPLEX OF A METAL OF THE PLATINUM FAMILY AND THEREAFTER WITH AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF A REDUCING AGENT FOR THE PLATINUM FAMILY METAL. THE COMPLEX CAN BE A NITRITO SALT OF THE PLATINUM METAL OR A SALT OF THE METAL WITH A KETO-CARBOXYLIC ACID OR DIGLYCOLLIC ACID.
