Abstract BREATHABLE SYNTHETIC COMPOSITES FOR ARTICLES OF CLOTHING INCLUDING SHOE UPPERS ARE PROVIDED BY LAMINATES COMPOSED OF OPEN-CELL SYNTHETIC FOAMS AND A POLYURETHANE FILM WHICH IS RESISTANT TO WATER TRANSFER. A PARTICULARY USEFUL COMPOSITE COMPRISES A POLYVINYLCHLORIDE OPEN-CELL FOAM AND A THERMOPLASTIC POLYURETHANE FILM CONTAINING A PLASTICIZER SUCH AS TRI-BUTOXYETHYL PHOSPHATE TO IMPROVE MOISTURE-VAPOR TRANSMISSION PROPERTIES OF THE COMPOSITE.
