Abstract LIGHT COUPLING INTO THIN OPTICAL WAVEGUIDING FILMS IS ACHIEVED BY MEANS OF A THICK BRAGG TYPE DIFFRACTION GRATING EXTENDING ALONG ONE SURFACE OF THE FILM. WHEN THE LIGHT IS INCIDENT AT OR NEAR THE BRAGG ANGLE, UNWANTED DIFFRACTION ORDERS ARE SUPPRESSED AND EFFICIENT COUPLING IS REALIZED.
