Abstract

Abstract A cyclic process is provided for preparing secondary and/or tertiary mono-, di- or polyamines by the continuous catalytic reductive amination of mono-, di- or polynitriles, which comprises continuously hydrogenating the nitrile in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and a primary or a secondary mono-, di- or polyamine reactant, removing the gaseous byproduct mixture, which consists of ammonia, unreacted hydrogen and volatilized primary or secondary amine reactant, from the reaction mixture, separating the ammonia from the gaseous byproduct mixture by selective absorption, and recycling the hydrogen and amine reactant.
