Abstract
Abstract Soluble phosphates are removed from a sewage effluent by controlled additions of sodium aluminate, NaAlD2, and a flocculant introduced into the sewage effluent at some point after secondary (aeration) treatment and prior to discharging the effluent to a receiving body of water, thereby reducing considerably the amount of phosphates responsible for proliferation of primitive aquatic plant life deemed ecologically inimical.
