Abstract A METHOD FOR IMPROVING THE ADHESIVE BOND BETWEEN AN ALUMINUM SURFACE AND OTHER MATERIALS COMPRISING PRETREATING THE ALUMINUM SURFACE BY ANODIZING IN AN ACIDIC ELECTROLYTE IN SUCH AS MANNER THAT AN INITIALLY FORMED ANODIC OXIDE LAYER DISSOLVES AT ABOUT THE SAME RATE AT WHICH IT IS BEING FORMED AND PSEUDOBOEHMITE IS FORMED IN THE OXIDE COATING THAT REMAINS ON THE ALUMINUM SURFACE.
