Abstract

Abstract A cylinder block for liquid-cooled internal combustion engines which has an inserted cylinder liner whereby a possibly multiple grooving for the guidance of the cooling liquid is arranged in spiral shape between the outer surface of the cylinder liner and the inner surface of the cylinder block receiving the same; the grooving extends preferably with a relatively small pitch from an inlet to an outlet and extends either over the entire height of the cylinder liner or over only a part thereof.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 290 words
A cylinder block arrangement for liquid-cooled internal combustion engines comprising a cylinder liner inserted into a cylinder mounting body forming part of the cylinder block, spiral groove means being formed in effect between the cylinder liner and the mounting body, said groove means being defined by said mounting body and said cylinder liner, said mounting body being provided with upper and lower cooling liquid spaces formed by substantially parallel wall portions of the cylinder block subdivided into the upper and lower cooling liquid spaces by a common cross wall forming a reinforcing web portion extending essentially transversely to the cylinder axis about midway of the length of the axial extent of the spiral groove means, the length of the wall portions defining the spaces being substantially coextensive with the axial extent of the spiral groove means, the upper cooling liquid space being closed off in the area of the upper end of the spiral groove means by a cross wall and the lower cooling liquid space being closed off within the area of the lower end of the spiral groove means by a further cross wall, inleT means within the upper area of the upper cooling liquid space providing an inlet for the cooling liquid with the upper end of the spiral groove means, and outlet means within the lower area of the cooling liquid space providing an outlet for the cooling liquid at the lower end of the spiral groove means so that the cooling liquid flows from the upper cooling liquid space into the upper end of the spiral groove means, then passes through the spiral groove means and flows out at the lower end thereof by way of the outlet means into the lower cooling liquid space.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 290 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 27 words
An arrangement according to claim 1, characterized in that said spiral groove means is arranged with a relatively small pitch winding from an inlet to an outlet.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
An arrangement according to claim 2, characterized in that a multiple groove means is provided for the guidance of the cooling liquid.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
An arrangement according to claim 1, characterized in that said groove means is arranged at the outer surface of the cylinder liner and is delimited externally by the mounting body.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 36 words
An arrangement according to claim 1, characterized in that the groove means begins at the upper edge of the cylinder liner and winds about the cylinder liner at least over a part of its entire height.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 26 words
An arrangement according to claim 1, characterized in that said inlet means terminates in said groove means substantially tangentially to the circumference of the cylinder liner.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
An arrangement according to claim 6, characterized in that said outlet means terminates in said groove means substantially tangentially to the circumference of the cylinder liner.
