Abstract QUATERNARY OR HIGHER ORDER ALLOY SYSTEMS ARE UNIDRECTIONALLY SOLIDIFIED TO PROVIDE ANISOTROPIC POLYPHASE STRUCTURES WHEREIN ONE OR MORE PHASES OF A WHISKER OR LAMELLAR MORPHOLOGY IN SUBSTANTIAL ALIGNMENT IS EMBEDDED IN A MATRIX PHASE.
