Abstract
Abstract A process for the production of a carboxylic acid at a high yield with reduced formation of by-products, which comprises reacting an olefin, a halogenated olefin, an alcohol, a halohydrin, an ester, an ether or a mercaptan with carbon monoxide using an acidic catalyst in the presence of a halogenated hydrocarbon and/or a carboxyl group-containing compound and diluting the resulting reaction mixture with water.
