Abstract
Abstract Molten thermoplastic resin, e.g., polyethylene, is forced into a pattern on the surface of a rotating roll to form a web of ribs usually integrally molded to a continuous film; this web is of low density and has a high strength-to-weight ratio so as to be used for structural purposes and packaging.

In a structural panel having a honeycomb core, said core comprising a plurality of upstanding members made of ribbed structure of thermoplastic resin, comprising a 0.001 to 0.025 inch thick film and a network of ribs integrally molded to a surface thereof and with one another, said ribbed structure having a bulk density of less than 30 percent of the density of said resin, said network of ribs having a bulk density of less than 20 percent of the density of said resin, and a web of material laminated to the tops of said ribs, the cross-sectional height-to-width ratio of said ribs being at least 5:1.
