Abstract COMPOSITIONS OF MATTER COMPRISING RADIO-YTTERBIUM AND A CHELATING AGENT THEREOF, THE SAID COMPOSITIONS BEING SOUBLE IN WATER AND BODY FLUIDS AND HAVING A STABILITY CONSTANT ABOVE ABOUT 10**15, ARE USED BY PARENTERAL ADMINISTRATION TO STUDY THE KIDNEYS AND THE BRAIN IN WARMBLOODED ANIMALS. THE CHELATING AGENT PREVENS THE DISSIPATION OF THE CHEMICALLY ACTIVE RADIO-NUCLIDE INTO BODY TISSUES OTHER THAN THE KIDNEYS, SINCE CHELATES ALTHOUGH SOLUBLE, ARE PREFERENTIALLY EXCRETED BY THE KIDNEY. A USEFUL DIAGNOSTIC TOOL IS PROVIDED.
