Abstract THE HYDROGENATION OF PERFLUOROALKANE CARBOXYLIC ACIDS AND THE LOWER ALKANOL ESTERS THEREOF AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES WITH A RUTHENIUM CATALYST IN AN AQUEOUS SYSTEM YIELDS PURE 1,1-DIHYDRO-PERFLUORO ALKANOLS IN HIGH YIELDS. THE PRODUCTS ARE USEFUL INTERMEDIATES, E.G. FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF WATER- AND OIL REPELLENT AGENTS.
