Abstract
Abstract A CRUDE HYDROCARBON FEEDSTOCK CONTAINING SULFUR IMPURITIES IS DESULFURIZED, I.E. REDUCED IN SULFUR CONTENT, BY REACTING THE FEEDSTOCK IN A HYDROGEN ATOMOSPHERE WITH FINELY DIVIDED MAGNESIUM AT A HIGH TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE. THE FEEDSTOCK IS THEN SEPARATED FROM THE MAGNESIUM SULFIDE. SULFUR CAN BE RECOVERED FROM THE MAGNESIUM SULFIDE AND THE MAGNESIUM RECYCLED IF DESIRED.
