Abstract
Abstract Disclosed is an improved battery cell having a molten alkali metal anode and a molten alkali metal polysulfide catholyte separated by a silicate glass as an alkali metal ion permeable membrane. The improvement involves the use of an alkali metal polysulfide having a low hydroxide content as the catholyte. Use of such a material substantially increases the membrane life.
