Abstract FILAMENTS AND FIBERS OF METALS, CERAMICS AND OTHER METERIALS WHICH ARE ESSENTIALLY INVISCED IN THE MOLTEN STATE CAN BE MADE BY EXTRUDING OR SPINNING THE MOLTEN MATERIAL AS A FREE STREAM INTO AN ATMOSPHERE WHICH FORMS A STABILIZING FILM ON THE STREAM PENDING SOLIDIFICATION AND PRIOR TO BREAKUP CAUSED BY SURFACE TENSION.
