Abstract

Abstract A test cart has an upper compartment into which a shadow mask color tube is loaded, being received in a movable workholder with the tube axis aligned with a horizontal reference axis. The workholder carries the tube into proper operating relation with respect to the usual accessories such as deflection yoke, convergence assembly, blue lateral, purity coil and tube socket. Various electrical systems are housed in the lower compartment of the cart, supplying energizing potentials and electrical signals necessary to test the tube in an environment closely simulating that of a color television receiver. A digital voltmeter is controlled by a function switching deck for convenient measurement of the operating characteristics of the tube under test.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 228 words
A final test arrangement for a color cathode-ray tube having an image screen comprising a plurality of interlacEd deposits of a corresponding plurality of different color phosphors and further having an electrode system comprising a like plurality of electron guns for developing, focusing and accelerating electron beams for impinging upon assigned ones of said phosphor deposits, respectively, said arrangement comprising: a workholder for releasably supporting said tube in a test position; energizing means, including a deflection yoke, a convergence assembly and input connections to said electrode system, for establishing operating conditions for the tube under test which simulate its operating conditions in a color television receiver and for presenting a multiplicity of test points for measuring the operating characteristics of the tube under test; energy sources for supplying dynamic signals and d.c. operating potentials of controllable intensity; a voltmeter; an interconnection system for connecting said energy sources to said energizing means and for selectively establishing in any desired order predetermined ones of a series of test circuits individually including said voltmeter and a particular one of said test points of said energizing means, certain of said test circuits being incompatible with one another; and means included in said interconnection system, responsive to the selection of one of said test circuits, for disabling the remainder of said test circuits that are incompatible with the one that has been selected.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 228 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 70 words
A final test arrangement in accordance with claim 1 in which said energizing means further includes a blue-lateral magnet for cooperating with said convergence assembly, and in which said convergence assembly and blue lateral magnet are supported in adjustably fixed position and are invertible to accommodate color tubes whether the blue ones of its plurality of guns is arranged on the top or bottom portion of its electron gun cluster.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 67 words
A final test arrangement in accordance with claim 1 in which said interconnection system includes a plurality of function switches individually having contacts that are selectively closed to select one of test circuits, and in which there are means for passing a surge of current through only the operated one of said switches to clean the contacts thereof as an incident to selecting said one test circuit.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 111 words
A final test arrangement in accordance with claim 3 in which each of said function switches has sets of contacts, in which a capacitor and a d.c. voltage source are series connected through corresponding ones of the sets of said function switches during operating intervals in which said switches are in their unactuated condition to charge said capacitor from said voltage source, and in which the operation of one of said function switches establishes a selected one of said test circuits and concurrently completes through one of the set of contacts of the operated switch a discharge path for said capacitor that has minimal resistance, providing a fast discharge time constant.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 63 words
A final test arrangement in accordance with claim 1 in which one of said energy sources is a high voltage d.c. source for supplying final anode voltage to said electrode system, and in which said d.c. source has a ramp voltage-time characteristic, requiring a predetermined time interval of at least a few seconds to build up the anode voltage to a desired level.
