Abstract FIBERS COMPRISED OF POLY(1,4-CYCLOHEXYLENENDIMETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE) HAVING IMPROVED RESISTANCE TO BURNING ARE PREPARED BY CONTACTING THE FIBER WITH A BROMINATING AGENT IN THE PRESENCE OF A CHLORINATING AGENT, AND THE SUM OF BROMINE AND CHLORINE ON THE SURFACE OF THE FIBER IS AT LEAST FOUR PERCENT OF THE WEIGHT OF THE FIBER AND THE TOUGHNESS OF THE FIBER IS REDUCED NOT MORE THAN 20 PERCENT, BASED ON THE TOUGHNESS OF THE FIBER BEFORE CONTACTING THE FIBER.
