Abstract
Abstract Acidic constituents are removed from gaseous mixtures by washing with a solvent which comprises a N-substituted Epsilon caprolactam. The solvent may also contain water and/or an alkanolamine. These solvents are advantageous, because, even in the presence of water, they cause no corrosion.

The process according to claim 3 wherein the gaseous mixture contains carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen, methane and hydrogen, and carbon dioxide is present in the amount of 8 percent, and after washing, the purified gas contains less than 0.5 percent of carbon dioxide.
