Abstract
Abstract The disclosed embodiment of the present invention is a film transport which includes a pair of capstan rollers for translating the film, a pair of sprockets associated with the capstan rollers for edge guiding the film, and a curved platen for supporting the film at a flying spot scanner station. An encoder is connected to one sprocket for sensing longitudinal movement of the film and a finger engages and senses the position of an edge of the film. A signal corresponding to the position of the edge of the film is supplied to the deflection circuitry of the flying spot scanner to alter to raster position thereof accordingly.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
139 words
A film transport system comprising two spaced apart capstans for supporting and driving a film strip longitudinally, two sprocket wheels each mounted concentric with a respective one of said capstans and positioned to engage perforation holes along an edge of the film strip for guiding the film strip laterally, said sprocket wheels being mounted to rotate freely and independent of the rotation of the capstans, a pair of pinch rollers each associated with a respective one of said capstans for pressing upon and for frictionally engaging the film strip with the respective one of the capstans, and a platen positioned to engage and support the film strip between the capstans, said platen having a convex cylindrical surface having curvature longitudinally with respect to the film strip to reduce a tendency for the film to curl laterally across the strip.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
16 words
A film transport system as defined in claim 4, wherein said sensing means includes an encoder.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
34 words
A film transport system in accordance with claim 1, comprising sensing means mechanically coupled to one of the sprocket wheels for providing an electrical signal indicative of the longitudinal positioning of the Film strip.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
144 words
A film transport system comprising a capstan for supporting and driving a film strip longitudinally and positioned on one side of an optical station, means for supporting the film strip on the other side of the optical station, a pair of sprocket wheels mounted for rotation on opposite sides of the optical station, said sprocket wheels being positioned to engage perforation holes along an edge of the film strip for guiding the film strip laterally and being mounted for rotation freely and independently of said supporting means and of the rotation of said capstan, a pinch roller associated with said capstan for pressing upon the film strip and for frictionally engaging the film strip with said capstan, means for rotating said capstan to drive the film longitudinally through the optical station, and means for sensing the rotational displacement of one of said sprocket wheels.
Claim 6
