Abstract
Abstract Apparatus for sewing predetermined lengths of two or more different materials in strip form to a base strip in sequence along the latter. The base strip is fed continuously to the sewing station and the successive lengths of the first-mentioned materials are fed to the sewing station selectively in sequence. The first-mentioned materials are fed from respective sources of supply and are cut off to predetermined length cyclically by automatic or semiautomatic means.

The combination of a sewing machine having stitch-forming means and means for feeding the material to be sewed past the stitch-forming means, said sewing machine including means to sew strips of different kinds selectively and sequentially at spaced intervals to and along a common strip, the selected strip and common strip being fed jointly past the stitch-forming means by the feeding means, and apparatus having means for severing either of the said strips coMprising: a member having a pair of apertures, one individual to each of the strips to guide the same in a predetermined path, each said aperture having an exit end, said exit ends being adjacent, a fixed shearing blade adjacent each said exit end, a movable blade mounted to cooperate with each of said fixed blades alternately to sever the strip then being fed past the associated fixed blade, and means to actuate said movable blade between two positions, movement to one of said positions effecting shearing of one strip and movement to the other position effecting shearing of the other strip.
