Abstract
Abstract THE OXIDATIVE STABILITY OF POLYPHENYL THIOETHERS IS INCREASED AND THEIR CORROSIVENESS TOWARDS METALS IS DECREASED BY CONTACTING THE POLYPHENYL THIOETHERS UNDER BASIC CONDITIONS IN THE LIQUID PHASE WITH AN OXIDIZING AGENT WHICH MAINTAINS ITS OXIDATION FUNCTIONALLY UNDER BASIC CONDITIONS. FOR EXAMPLE, M-BIS(PHENYLERCAPTO) BENZENE IS CONTACTED WITH A BASIC AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE AT 100*C. FOR 8 HOURS TO IMPROVE ITS OXIDATIVE STABILITY.
