Abstract
Abstract An improved press for intermittent paper web feeding including means for synchronously driving each end of the web through identical and simultaneous motion. Means is provided for improved clutching action, and the maintenance of a variable loop in the web existing between a continuously rotating paper feed supply and the incremental web-feeding means.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
229 words
In a printing press unit having means for advancing a web of paper for an adjustable distance to a printing cylinder by accelerating said web to the linear speed of said printing cylinder, maintaining said speed during printing, and decelerating said web to a stop after printing has been completed, said means including a main driven gear and accelerating and decelerating clutches for selectively interconnecting said gear for transmission of motion from separate sources of motion, the improvement comprising: linking means for relating the action of said accelerating and decelerating clutches such that the engagement of said accelerating clutch will serve to disengage said decelerating clutch, but the disengagement of said decelerating clutch will not serve to engage said accelerating clutch; said last-mentioned means including a first pivotally mounted lever controlling said accelerating clutch, cam means engaging said lever to engage said accelerating clutch, an arm attached to said lever and moveable therewith; said decelerating clutch having a second pivotally mounted lever and second cam means for actuating said second lever, a second arm pivotally mounting on said second lever for rotative movement with respect thereto, detent means selectively fixing the rotative position of said second arm with respect to said second lever, and means transmitting motion from said first arm to said second arm when said second arm is in a predetermined position relative to said second lever.
