Abstract IT HAS BEEN DISCOVERED THAT POLYESTERS CAN BE STABILIZED AGAINST THE SPONTANEOUS DEGRADATION WHICH THE POLYESTERS ORDINARILY UNDERGO WHEN THEY ARE HEATED TO TEMPERATURES SUBSTANTIALLY ABOVE THEIR MELTING POINTS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME BY THE INCORPORATION THEREINTO OF A SMALL AMOUNT OF ONE OR MORE 2(5H) FURANONES WHICH ARE CMPATIBLE WITH THE POLYESTER, ARE UTRAVIOLET ABSORBING, AND WHICH ARE. THEMSELVES STABLE AT SAID TEMPERATURE.
