Abstract THE PRESENT DISCLOSURE RELATES TO METHODS FOR THE PREPARATION OF COMPOUNDS OF THE FORMULA 1,3-DI(HO-),2-(CH3-O-),5-(R1-CO-CH(-NH2)-CH2-)BENZENE IN WHICH R1 IS HYDROXYL, ALKOXY, OR A SUBSTITUTED OR UNSUBSTITUTED AMINO GROUP, OPTICAL ISOMERS (PREFERABLY THE L-ANTIPODES) THEREOF AND PHARMACEUTICALLY ACCEPTABLE SALTS THEREOF. SUCH COMPOUNDS ARE USEFUL AS HYPOTENSIVE AGENTS. THE INSTANT DISCLOSURE ALSO INCLUDES CERTAIN NOVEL INTERMEDIATES WHICH ARE USEFUL IN THE PREPARATION OF THE PHARMACEUTICALLY USEFUL COMPOUNDS OF FORMUAL I.
