Abstract

Abstract Apparatus and method for flushing the teeth and gum tissues with a moving stream of water to remove debris therefrom. The apparatus includes a nozzle with a plurality of angularly related supply passages converging at a single orifice through which such stream of water discharges. The stream cyclically and repetitively traverses a path of travel while the orifice remains in a fixed position because of changes in the relative volumetric flows of water through the supply passages.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 135 words
A nozzle structure of the character described providing a fluid jet discharge which cyclically traverses bodily a path of travel, said nozzle structure comprising a nozzle body having a plurality of angularly related passages for flow of fluid streams therethrough and which intersect at a surface of the body to provide both a single unobstructed discharge orifice at said surface and a mixing chamber at such intersection at which said fluid streams interact adjacent said surface and discharge as a jet through said orifice; and a fluid delivery system for supplying fluid to said passages and for varying the relative volumetric flows of fluid therethrough with respect to time to discharge an oscillating bodily movable jet from said orifice, the direction of which varies with changes in relative volumetric flows of fluid through said passage.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 135 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 30 words
The nozzle structure of claim 1 in which the longitudinal axes of said passages lie substantially in a common plane so that the aforesaid path of travel is fan shaped.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 46 words
The nozzle structure of claim 2, in which said passages constitute two in number and are oriented with respect to each other so that the longitudinal axes thereof intersect at an angle of substantially 90* wherefore the angular length of such fan-shaped pattern is approximately 90*.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
The combination of claim 1 in which said variation in volumetric flows is cyclically repetitive and follows a predetermined order so that the aforesaid path is definitive and repetitive.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 28 words
The nozzle structure of claim 2 in which said passages are disposed so that the longitudinal axes thereof converge to an intersection adjacent the center of said orifice.
