Abstract
Abstract A collapsible combination bed and closet comprising upstanding sidewalls connected by inwardly foldable end walls. A sleeping platform in the nature of a padded spring support is pivoted to the top of one of the sidewalls so as to be swung to a storage condition between the sidewalls that does not interfere with inward folding of the end walls. Shelves and clothes rod are detachably mounted to extend between the end walls, and a closable opening is provided in one of the sidewalls for access to the shelves and rod. A collapsible bottom wall including a fixed section is provided and there is sufficient space above and on the fixed bottom wall section (when the end walls are folded) to accommodate storage of the shelves, rod and a ladder.

Collapsible bed furniture comprising first and second upstanding and spaced sidewalls, a pair of upstanding and foldable end walls connecting the opposite ends of the sidewalls, a generally rectangular sleeping platform hingedly connected along one side edge thereof to the upper edge of the first of the sidewalls for downward swinging movement between a horizontal first position directed toward the upper edge of the second sidewall and a downwardly directed vertical second position between the sidewalls and adjacent the first sidewall to which it is hingedly connected, means for releasably securing the platform against movement from its first position toward its second position, means for folding said end walls comprising each of said end walls including a pair of adjoining upstanding folding wall sections each having vertical side edges, means hingedly connecting the adjacent side edges of said adjoining wall sections, means hingedly connecting one of the remote side edges of the adjoining wall sections to the first sidewall, means hingedly connecting the other of the remote side edges of the adjoining wall sections to the second sidewall, whereby the adjoining wall sections of each of the end walls can be folded to extend into space between the sidewalls when the platform is in its vertical position, each of said end walls including a fixed end wall section fixedly secured to the first sidewall and extending toward the second sidewall, with such fixed end wall section constituting a portion of the means hingedly connecting said one of the remote side edges of the folding wall sections to the first sidewall, said platform being disposed between the fixed end wall sections and also being disposed between the folding wall sections of the end walls and the first sidewall, when the platform is in its vertical second position and when the folding wall sections of the end walls are folded, a horizontally disposed and fixed rectangular bottom wall having end edges secured to the fixed end wall sections at lowermost edges of the latter and having one side edge secured to the first sidewall at the lowermost edge of the latter, a rectangular and movable bottom wall having a side edge hingedly connected to the other side edge of the fixed bottom wall for upward swinging movement a horizontal first position and a vertical second position, means for preventing downward swinging movement of the movable bottom wall from its first position, the arrangement being such that when the movable bottom wall is in its second position it is disposed between the platform and the folding end wall sections when the latter are folded and the platform is in its second position.

The combination of claim 1, wherein the sidewalls are provided with support wheels, whereby relative movement of the sidewalls toward and away from each other is facilitated, said support wheels being mounted with their axes of rotation being parallel to the sidewalls, a ladder including elongated side rails, said side rails having extremities of hook form at one end of the ladder, one of said fixed end wall sections being provided with means releasably engageable by the hood form extremities of the ladder rails, the arrangement being such that the ladder can be employed by a user in mounting the platform with the furniture not being caused to roll on the support wheels.
