In an improved low temperature zinc oxide-copper oxide shift catalyst, having on a weight ratio 0.5 to 4 zinc to 1 copper, the improvement comprising the presence of 0.60 to 10.5 percent by weight of colloidal silica and 1 to 20 percent by weight diatomaceous earth in the catalyst.
