Abstract
Abstract A complex ester is made by the reaction of a neopentyl-type polyol such as pentaerythritol, trimethylolpropane, or neopentyl glycol; an aromatic polycarboxylic acid such as phthalic, trimellitic, pyromellitic, or mellitic acid, and an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having from 2-12 carbon atoms, in proportion such that the average number of carbon atoms per acid molecule is from 4-10. The esters have exceptionally low pour points, high viscosity index, and are suitable for lubricating turbine bearings.
