Abstract
Abstract An improved switch device comprises an enclosure and a switch structure supported within the enclosure, which switch structure is constructed and arranged such that the position of the contacts can be readily determined by visual inspection from the front of the enclosure when the enclosure cover is in the open position. Means are provided for supporting the contact arm structures on an insulating support member comprising a U-shaped receiving aperture on said insulating support member, and a Ushaped contact snappable into said aperture.

A switch device comprising an enclosure, said enclosure comprising sidewall means forming an open front, a cover structure movable to open and closed positions to open and close said open front, said cover structure comprising a generally planar front part the plane of which is normal to said sidewall means when said cover structure is in the closed position, a switch structure mounted within said enclosure and comprising a plurality of stationary contacts, a movable contact for each of said stationary contacts, an elongated movable contact arm supporting each of said movable contacts, an insulating tie bar supporting all of said plurality of movable contact arms and being rotatable about a fixed pivot to operatively move said movable contact arms to thereby move said movable contacts into and out of engagement with said stationary contacts, an operating mechanism operable to operatively move said tie bar, an external handle mounted on said cover structure, connecting means operatively connecting said external handle with said operating mechanism when said cover structure is in the closed position, with said cover structure in the closed position said external handle being operable to operate said operating mechanism to operatively move said tie bar, an arc-extinguishing structure disposed between said tie bar and said open front of said enclosure, said arc-extinguishing structure comprising an insulating arc-hood for each of said stationary contacts, during an opening operation of said switch device said tie bar being operated to simultaneously move said movable contacts to an open position during which movement an arc is drawn between each pair of stationary and movable contacts, each of said arcs being extinguished within the associated arc-hood, and at the expiration of said opening operation said movable contacts being positioned where they are all visible from the open front of said enclosure when cover is in the open position.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
175 words
A multipole circuit interrupter comprising a stationary contact for each pole, an elongated molded insulating contact support member supported for movement relative to said stationary contacts, said insulating contact support member being formed with a separate pocket therein for each pole with two opposite sidewalls within each of said pockets, a separate resilient movable contact arm for each of said pockets, each of said movable contact arms comprising a generally U-shaped support part with one leg of said U-shaped support part being an elongated leg with the free end of the elongated leg extending past the free end of the other leg, a contact on the free end of the elongated leg of each of said movable contact arms, each of said movable contact arms being removably supported on said insulating contact support member with the U-shaped support part thereof being supported in the associated pocket and with the resiliency of the movable contact arm maintaining the legs of the U-shaped part in a supporting position engaging the two opposite sidewalls of the associated pocket.
Claim 4
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
143 words
A multipole circuit interrupter according to claim 2, said insulating contact support member comprising a ledge at one of the sidewalls of each of said pockets, each of said movable contact arms comprising a tang on one of the legs of the U-shaped support part thereof, the dimension between the opposite sidewalls of each of said pockets and the dimension between the legs of the U-shaped support part of each of said movable contact arms being such that when each of said movable contact arms is moved into the associated pocket during a mounting operation the contact arms will engage the associated opposite sidewalls charging the resilient contact arm and near the end of the mounting operation the associated tang will automatically snap into latching engagement with the associated ledge to prevent movement of the movable contact arm out of the associated pocket.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
26 words
A multipole circuit interrupter according to claim 3, and each of said tangs being positioned on the said other leg of the associated U-shaped support part.
