Abstract
Abstract A tool-changing mechanism which transports tools between an indexible magazine mounted on a stationary support and a tool spindle mounted on a holder which is movable toward and away from the magazine support. The mechanism comprises an expandible and collapsible linkage having first and second pivots respectively mounted on the support and on the holder and two links which respectively connect the first and second pivots with a third pivot parallel to the other two pivots. The third pivot carries an oscillatable arm for a gripping unit which can transport tools between the magazine and the spindle holder in response to angular movement of the arm through an angle whose magnitude is a function of the distance between the magazine and the spindle holder.
