Abstract

Abstract An exhaust pump of laminar construction employs a palladium substrate and an intermediate layer of titanium between the substrate and a hydrocarbon cracker catalyst layer. The catalyst layer is exposed to a region being evacuated of gas including hydrogen, while the palladium substrate is exposed to the atmosphere. The combination of materials, operated at an elevated temperature, results in efficient hydrocarbon cracking, hydrogen pumping, and sorption of other gases.
