Abstract A PROCESS IS PROVIDED FOR PREPARING AN ALKALIZED ALUMINA SOLID ADSOBENT BY REACTING SODIUM ALUMINATE WITH EITHER AMMONIUM CARBONATE OR CARBON DIOXIDE TO PRODUCE DAWSONITE (NAAL(CO)(OH)2OR KAL(CO3)(OH2), AND OPTIONALLY HEATING THE DAWSONITE TO CONVERT IT TO AN ALKALIZED ALUMINA COMPRISING SUBSTANTIALLY AL2O3 AND AN ALKALI METAL.
