Abstract

Abstract Reserve battery electrodes and a method for preparing said electrodes wherein a metal support body is coated with a substantially noncorrodible electrically conductive material and then overcoated with an active material, for example, lead dioxide, dispersed in a resinous binder. The noncorrodible electrically conductive under layer is applied in an amount sufficient to prevent corroding of the metal support body and sufficient to prevent formation of an interfacial resistance barrier between the metal support body and the subsequently applied coating. The electrically conductive material is applied to the support in admixture with a thermosetting resin. Alternatively, the metal support body is flash plated with a metal which is either inert to oxidation when in contact with the active material or forms a conductive oxide in contact with the active material. In the first embodiment, the active material is applied to the first layer in admixture with a thermosetting resin.
