Abstract
Abstract THERE IS PROVIDED A NOVEL FORM OF FLOATING SUBFOUNDATION AND A METHOD OF PRODUCING THE SAME. THE NOVEL SUBFOUNDATION COMPRISES A LAYER OF MODERATELY RIGID, SYNTHETIC, POLYMERIC FOAM PLACED IN THE EXCAVATION FOR A STRUCTURE. A CUSTOMARY RIGID FOUNDATION, SUITABLY OF REINFORCED CONCRETE IS PLACED OVER THE SUBFOUNDATION AND THE STRUCTURE ERECTED UPON THE RIGID FOUNDATION. THE NOVEL SUBFOUNDATION MAKES POSSIBLE GREATLY INCREASED STRUCTURAL LOADS ON SOILS WHICH ARE UNSTABLE AND NOT NORMALLY CONSIDERED CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING HIGH LOADS.
