Abstract THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A MEASURING INSTRUMENT SUCH AS A TAPE WHICH IS PROVIDED WITH LEGIBLE CALIBRATED MARKINGS AND AN ADHESIVE FOR AFFIXING THE INSTRUMENT TO A SURFACE TO BE MARKED, A TRANSFER MEDIUM BEING SO DISPOSED BETWEEN THE INSTRUMENT AND THE SURFACE TO BE MARKED THAT UPON APPLICATION OF PRESSURE TO CERTAIN AREAS OFE THE INSTRUMENT, THE TRANSFER MEDIUM IS DEPOSITED ON THE SURFACE TO BE MARKED, OVER AN AREA COINCIDENT WITH THE AREA BELOW WHICH THE PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE INSTRUMENT.
