Abstract
Abstract A facsimile transceiver including three optical scanners each of which carries its own light source for illuminating the copy as it is scanned. Also included are means for adjusting the optical axes of the scanners with respect to each other and printer contact means mounted on each scanner for marking recording paper when operating in the receiver mode.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
156 words
For use in a facsimile transceiver, a combined scanner and printer contact unit comprising an optical scanner carriage assembly adapted for movement across copy material in a linear direction, an optical scanner secured in said optical scanner carriage assembly, the centerline of said optical scanner being disposed perpendicularly to the direction of movement of said optical carriage assembly, printer contact means, means mounting said printer contact means on said optical scanner carriage assembly generally in a plane perpendicular to the movement of said optical carriage assembly and containing said optical scanner centerline, said mounting means includes a carriage block supported on said optical carriage assembly vertically thereabove, and said printer contact means includes a flexible printer contact strip extending along and secured at one end to said carriage block, and said printer contact strip at the other end having a printer contact element that is movable in said plane of the centerline of said optical scanner.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
71 words
The combined scanner and printer contact unit of claim 1 wherein said optical scanner is comprised of an elongated hollow lens holder, a lens mounted in the forward end of said lens holder, a photocell mounted at the rearward end of said lens holder, diaphragm means positioned transversely of said lens holder forwardly of said photocell and defining an aperture, and light source means supported by said optical scanner carriage assembly.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
26 words
The combined scanner and printer contact unit of claim 2 wherein said diaphragm means comprises means for varying the position of said aperture in any direction.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
73 words
The optical scanner of claim 3 wherein said diaphragm means is comprised of two adjacent diaphragm leaves, said diaphragm leaves each having a slot which slots are arranged in overlapping relation to define said aperture, and at least one of said diaphragm leaves is adjustably movable in its transverse plane for varying the relatiVe positions of said slots and hence the position of said aperture relative to the centerline of said lens holder.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
109 words
The optical scanner of claim 4 wherein both said diaphragm leaves are rectilinearly movable each in a path perpendicular to the other in their respective transverse planes, and said overlapping slots are arranged at an angle of 45* relative to the paths of movement of said diaphragm leaves and perpendicular to each other whereby said aperture defined thereby is square. 6. The combined scanner and printer contact unit of claim 2 wherein said printer contact mounting means comprises means for adjusting the position of said one end of said flexible printer contact strip along said carriage block to align said printer contact element in said optical scanner centerline plane.
