Abstract
Abstract A process of coating the surface of zinc-based metals with a paint film, to give a coating of high adhesion to the metal. The surface is successively drenched in an aqueous alkaline conditioning liquid, water rinsed, zinc phosphate ''conversion'' coated and finally coated with a paint film by electrophoretic deposition. The conditioning liquid comprises a source of iron ions, an iron sequestering agent and sodium or potassium hydroxide, the pH of the liquid being at least 13.
