Abstract
Abstract An entrance chute for use in a xerographic development system comprising an inclined baffle arranged to direct a flow of twocomponent developer material into contact with a moving photoconductive surface and a shield positioned between the photoconductor and the inclined baffle, the baffle and shield cooperating to form a restricted opening through which twocomponent developer material supported therebetween is introduced into the development zone. The baffle and the shield are both electrically biased to establish a strong directional force field in the introductory region for forcing loose toner particles away from the photoconductive surface.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
160 words
Apparatus for introducing a flow of two-component developer material to a member supporting a latent electrostatic image including an inclined conductive baffle extending horizontally across a development zone, said baffle being positioned adjacent to the image-support member and arranged to direct a flow of twocomponent developer material into contact with said member, a conductive shield positioned between said image-support member and said baffle and which coacts with said baffle to support a quantity of two-component developer material therebetween, said shield having a lip on the lower portion thereof complimentary with said inclined baffle to form a restricted opening therebetween through which the developer flows into contact with the image-supporting member, means to apply an electrical bias to said baffle of a polarity similar to the image supported by said member and having a magnitude greater than the image potential and means to electrically bias said shield to a potential lower than the potential in the nonimaged areas of said member.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
14 words
The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said shield is placed at a ground potential.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
25 words
The apparatus of claim 2 having further means to move said image-supporting member in opposition to the flow of developer material brought into contact therewith.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
175 words
The apparatus for bringing a flow of two-component developer material into contact with an image-bearing member including an inclined conductive baffle extending horizontally across a development zone, said baffle being positioned adjacent to the image-bearing member and arranged to direct a flow of two-component developer into contact with said member, said baffle having a dependent leg thereon which is turned downwardly into close parallel relation with said member, a conductive shield positioned between said inclined baffle and said image-bearing member having a lip on the lower portion thereof complimentary to the turned dependent leg on said baffle and cooperating therewith to form a restricted throat through which developer material is introduced into the development zone, means to deliver a continuous supply of two-component developer material between said baffle and said shield, means to apply an electrical bias to said baffle of a polarity similar to the image polarity on said member and having a magnitude substantially greater than the image potential, means to electrically bias said shield to a potential lower than the baffle potential.
Claim 6
