Abstract
Abstract A hydrocarbon feed is cracked in the presence of a fluid zeolite catalyst or a catalyst of comparable activity and/or selectivity which produces a transient maximum gasoline yield at a residence time of 5 seconds or less and in the presence of a diluent vapor or vapors which lower the partial pressure of the hydrocarbon feed and increase gasoline selectivity. Residence time is established by controlling the total charge rate of hydrocarbon and diluent vapor. The ratio of diluent vapor or vapors to hydrocarbon feed is also controlled so that a greater yield of gasoline is recovered from the process than could be recovered in the absence of the diluent vapor.
