Abstract

Abstract This invention relates to the electrolytic treatment of water containing dissolved salts by means of a cell in which the anode and the cathode are separated by a particulate carbon packing. The electrolytic process precipitates metallic impurities as metal oxides, hydroxides, sulfides, etc., which may be filtered from the cell effluent and liberates gases as such. Process and apparatus serve for the purification of water and recovery of impurities.
