Claim 2

The process of claim 1 wherein the said organic compound is an acyclic hydrocarbon of 4 to 5 nonquartenary carbon atoms.

Claim 3

The process of claim 1 wherein the said organic compound is selected from the group consisting of n-butene, methyl butene and mixtures thereof.

Claim 4

The process of claim 1 wherein the said organic compound is n-butene.

Claim 5

The process of claim 1 wherein the said catalyst has an X-ray diffraction pattern with the band width of the X-ray diffraction peak having Miller indices of 220 of at least 0.16 *2 theta.

Claim 6

The process of claim 1 wherein the said catalyst has an X-ray diffraction pattern with the most intense X-ray diffraction peak within the range of 2.50 to 2.58.

Claim 7

The process of claim 1 wherein the boron is present in an amount of from 0.02 to 0.20 atom per atom of iron and ratio of the said metal to the atoms of iron is from 1.25 to 1.0 total atoms per atom of iron.

Claim 8

The process of claim 1 wherein the said catalyst has been prepared by heating under conditions no more severe than equivalent to heating at 950* C. for 90 minutes in the presence of air.

Claim 9

The process of claim 1 wherein the iron of the catalyst during dehydrogenation predominately has the valence of plus 3 and is in a cubic face-centered structure.

Claim 10

The process of claim 1 wherein the catalyst also contains phosphorus.

Claim 11

A process for the dehydrogenation of carbon compounds which comprises feeding to a reactor at a temperature of greater than 250* C. a mixture of the said hydrocarbon compound to be dehydrogenated and from 0.2 to 2.5 mols of oxygen per mol of the said hydrocarbon compound with a catalyst for the dehydrogenation comprising a ferrite of a metal selected from the group consisting of magnesium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, zinc or cadmium and mixtures thereof modified with boron in an amount from 0.02 to 0.2 atom of boron per atom of in said ferrite.

Claim 12

A process for the dehydrogenation of butene to butadiene-1, 3 which comprises contacting in the vapor phase at a temperature of about 325* C. to 650* C. a mixture of the said butene with from 2 to 40 mols of steam per mol of butene and from 0.30 to 1.2 mols of oxygen per mol of the said butene with a catalyst for the dehydrogenation comprising magnesium ferrite and boron wherein the boron is present in an amount of from 1.02 to 0.20 atom of boron per atom of iron and wherein at least 70 atomic weight percent of the magnesium is in the form of the ferrite.
